From collection to community impact
Bikes4Freedom follows a structured, end-to-end approach to ensure that every bicycle creates lasting value. From collecting suitable bicycles in the Netherlands to shipping, distributing, and integrating them into local Bike Shops in Namibia, each step is designed to build sustainable systems. By combining logistics, local partnerships, and community-based workshops, we turn donated bicycles into sustainable mobility, educational benefits, entrepreneurship, employment and long-term opportunity.
B4F collects durable 'simple' bicycles, along with tools and spare parts, donated in the Netherlands or purchased for a small fee.
B4F ships these bikes from a depot in the Netherlands, by container with a transport partner to Walvis Bay, Namibia.
In Namibia, the bicycles are custom cleared and transported by BENN.
The distribution partner organizes the distribution to local community based 'Bike shops'.
Each Bike Shop is more than a repair workshop. It serves as a community hub where bicycles are inspected, repaired, and maintained, while local staff manage sales, customer service, and cycling education. This creates skilled jobs, builds local expertise, and ensures every bicycle delivers long-term value.
B4F partly takes care of tools, workshop equipment and parts.
Rather than giving bicycles away, they are sold at an affordable price that reflects the actual costs of customs clearance, transport within Namibia, refurbishment, and a modest margin for the Bike Shop. This creates a financially sustainable model that supports local entrepreneurship, long-term impact and ownership.
More than a bicycle shop, each Bike Shop is a community NGO hub where mobility, skills, and opportunity come together. By selling bicycles at an affordable price, we promote ownership, dignity, and long-term commitment while creating local jobs, prevent school drop-outs and strengthening entrepreneurship.
