About Bikes4Freedom

Driven by purpose. Powered by partnership.

Bikes4Freedom was founded by Roderick van Zuijlen van Nijevelt, an entrepreneur from the Netherlands, a country known worldwide for its deep-rooted cycling culture. Growing up in a nation where bicycles are an everyday means of transport, Roderick experienced firsthand how mobility creates freedom, access, and opportunity. Inspired by his connection with Namibia and its communities, he initiated Bikes4Freedom to bridge a simple yet powerful gap: access to mobility.

The idea behind this project is straightforward but impactful. In rural Namibia, long distances and limited transport options restrict access to school, healthcare, and economic opportunities. What is ordinary in the Netherlands can be transformative in Namibia. A durable bicycle significantly reduces travel time, increases carrying capacity, and expands the radius of opportunity. By addressing mobility poverty, Bikes4Freedom tackles one of the hidden barriers to development.

More Than a Bicycle

Building local ecosystems that create lasting change

Through close collaboration with trusted local partners, bicycles are transported from the Netherlands to Namibia and distributed via community-based Bike Shops. These workshops provide not only affordable bicycles, but also repairs, skills training, and local employment. By building sustainable bicycle ecosystems, the project creates long-term impact that extends far beyond the delivery of a single bike.

We believe that sustainable change is created together. Your financial contribution directly supports the purchase, transport, and distribution of bicycles, and helps strengthen local workshops and communities. By donating, you become part of a movement that turns mobility into opportunity and opportunity into lasting progress.
