Ambition of Bikes 4 Freedom
Transforming donated bicycles into lasting opportunities. Through a structured end-to-end approach, we collect quality and suitable bicycles in the Netherlands, ship them to Namibia, and distribute them through local Community Bike Shops. Together with trusted local partners, we transform donated bicycles into sustainable mobility, strengthening local businesses, create employment and improve access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunity.
5000 bicycles
Bikes4Freedom's ambition is to transport 5,000 bicycles (20 containers) to Namibia in the first 3 years and distribute them through local community based Bike Shops.
20 to 25 thousand
An estimated 20,000–25,000 people will benefit directly or indirectly from access to a bicycle through the Bikes4Freedom Programme.
2/3 women - 1/3 men
Approximately two-thirds of all bicycles will be allocated to women and girls, helping reduce mobility barriers and improve access to education, healthcare and economic opportunities. The remaining one-third will be allocated to men and boys.
7 from the 17 SDGs
Bikes4Freedom contributes directly to seven of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, by improving mobility, education, livelihoods, health, gender equality and sustainable communities — and improving school attendance and serving communities.
1. No Poverty
Bicycles increase earning potential by improving access to markets, employment, and small businesses, helping families build more stable incomes.
2. Zero Hunger
Bicycles improve access to markets, dairy collection centres, and agricultural services, strengthening food security and supporting local farmers.
3. Good Health and Well-Being
Bicycles improve access to healthcare facilities and enable community health workers to reach more people, faster and more efficiently.
4. Quality Education
Bicycles enable more girls to attend school regularly and spend more time learning and travel more safely.
5. Gender Equality
Providing bicycles to women and girls increases their independence, safety, and access to education, employment, and essential services.
6. Clean Water and Sanitation
Bicycles make it easier and safer to collect water, allowing families to transport larger quantities while reducing travel time and physical effort.
10. Reduced Inequalities
By overcoming the barrier of distance, bicycles expand access to education, employment, healthcare, and markets, helping reduce inequality and create equal opportunities.
